| The evacuees below are finding a temporary home at the 21st Century Youth Leadership Movement Training Center in Suttle, Alabama. Roger Allison of Patchwork Farms (a co-op member of the Federation) delivered more than 3,500 pounds of ham to the center on September 8, 2005. The youth assisting Roger unload are students from the athletic department of the Wallace Community College in Selma, Alabama. The meat was delivered with the assistance of Farm Aid, the Missouri Rural Crisis Center, and the Campaign for Family Farms and the Environment. The effort was coordinated by the Federation of Southern Cooperatives as part of its Relief & Recovery Program. Chef Fernando Hosey was a chef at the Superdome in New Orleans. As an evacuee himself, he is now assisting the Center by cooking for other evacuees. The photos of the evacuees are by Randy Williams of the Selma Post Herald and those of Roger Allison are by Heather Gray of the Federation/LAF. |
