Sanders also is a supporter of public school education and Alabama’s Black Belt, often appearing at school functions and events to inspire youth. A graduate of Talladega College and Harvard Law School, he practices law in Selma and is a member of the National Conference of Black Lawyers, National Bar Association, American Bar Association and Alabama Lawyers Association. He and his wife, civil rights attorney Faya Ora Rose Toure, are the parents of three biological children, Malika, Kindaka and Ainka, and four foster children, Charles, Maurice, Rosie and Jennifer. When he’s not practicing law or working in the Legislature, Sanders is active in his community as a member of the Campaign for a New South, the Coalition of Alabamians Reforming Education (CARE) and the Alabama New South Coalition. An engaging lecturer and published columnist, Sanders has authored two books, Take a Walk in My Shoes and his first novel, Death of a Fat Man. He attends Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Selma. |
